How to Reduce Stress in our Lives

Stress is anything in our lives that creates a sense of anxiety, confusion or imbalance.

With that said, we all need to realize that stress is a fact of life! It is not always a “bad” thing as it can sometimes propel you into excellence with adrenaline when required. It will always be in our life, so the best thing we can do is understand it and start realizing what is causing it. However, the “fight and flight” status should not be over-used as we need to keep it in reserve when most needed in our lives. By knowing how to recognize and minimize the unhealthy sides of stress, we will be able to live healthier and happier lives.

Are you stressed?

Do you feel overwhelmed or have a great deal of anxiety?

Do you suffer from panic attacks?

Do you have a hard time sleeping?

Do you have high blood pressure?

Do you feel your life is out of your control?

Do you feel discomfort in any of your 10 balances?

THE BALANCING ACT:

To have full, overall health and wellness we need to strive for balance in all 10 areas of our life:

Emotional, Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Social, Occupational, Sexual, Financial, Relational and Behavioural

Upon any areas that are unbalanced or unhealthy, thus, anxiety and stress begins! As does the many health concerns that can come along with that stress.

By decreasing our stress levels, we improve upon our life balances as you will be better able to manage every area of your life in more positive ways. If your life is not where you want it to be, positive change is needed to get you back on track to better health and happiness.

A good start is to write down all 10 life balances as listed above and rate them 0-10 as to where you see yourself within each of them. 0 being – needs much work and 10 being – very happy with that balance. Be as honest with yourself as you can, as much truth and clarity will come from this information. There is no need to be angry, sad or discouraged if you see many balances rated low. Most of us will find this and you are not alone. Remember, we all need to have a starting point. Self-realization is a very important and positive step to life improvement. It is very common that they all could be low if one particular low rated balance is flowing negatively into other balances. It is very difficult for a low balance not to affect several other balances in our lives.

The great thing with this personal project of taking a closer look at all of our balances and where they are at, we can then start to work on each of them, individually. Start with the lowest scored balances first as they are now realized most, or a higher level, of the stress and imbalances are situated. Start a journal and write down what you feel is imbalanced within that balance, what you can improve, what steps you need to do reduce the stress and anxiety within it, start setting goals within each balance.

And, once you start improving within a certain balance, that positivity will easily flow into all of your other balances. You might even want to work on a couple at a time as there might be a certain situation happening in your life that is impacting a few balances all at the same time.

TIPS:

To avoid feeling overwhelmed and disconnected, we need to work on our own level of confidence and self-respect and not rely on others to make us feel important. Self-worth is the key to our well-being and it comes from within ourselves. A couple things to try are:

  1. Start a new work-out regime to look and feel your best
  2. Write down all the things you find positive about your life
  3. Take up a new hobby
  4. Be around positive people to help uplift your life

The key is to keep going and moving forward to reach our own unique level of life happiness. We all have the ability to improve and grow. We are also all deserving of happiness, joy, success and good health. But, mostly, we all need to realize that we are all “humans-in-training” and that nobody is perfect. It is okay to want to make improvements in our lives and to help ourselves become the best we can be, not only for ourselves but to help make the world a better place by adding to it in positive ways.

Keep on keeping on, keep on striving to be your best “you”! No matter where you rate yourself right now, whether it be one, a couple, several or all the balances, keep raising the number(s). Even small changes will lead to huge life results.

Goodluck on your balance mission, and I look forward to being by your side along your incredible journey!
