Seniors’ Unique Humor

I have some interesting senior friends and we plan to resume meeting again for coffee when the health restrictions are eased. We enjoy relating many funny personal experiences. Moreover, we have proven that laughter is our best medicine. It lightens our aging handicaps, it keeps us connected, it helps us retain our sanity, and it stimulates our minds and bodies in many different interesting and sometimes unusual ways.

Following are a few of our funnies worth sharing.

(1) Doug related that he took his young grandson for his first zoo visit. The young boy pulled his pant leg and said grandpa that hairy ape behind the glass is staring at me and making me scared. Doug smiled and explained that he was only the ticket issuer.

(2) John said he had a nightmare recently and the devil forced him to chew and swallow a huge marshmallow, When he awoke his pillow slip was gone and he had an unhappy and loudly protesting stomach for a couple of days.

(3) Harry said he had a recurring dream that kept bugging him to arrange to stay again at an all inclusive vacation resort. To help him enjoy a peaceful sleep he promised his brain that he would do it. When he awoke he undertook his morning routines: -he showered and shaved – put his teeth in – found his glasses – located his hanging key chain – checked his wallet – took his prescription – and successfully found his cell phone. He then called his travel agent and when she answered it suddenly struck him that he had completely forgotten the resort name. He told her someone was knocking at the door and he would call her back. Thankfully his brain gave him credit for trying and stimulated different dreams thereafter.

(4) Sam has unusual facial expressions and he stated that he always prefers to look in the mirror without his glasses. He said that when he wears his glasses he is always startled because he can see a strange looking person staring back at him.

(5) The funniest award for the day went to Jacques who told us that after having a shower he is able to both exercise and dry himself off by holding onto the safety bar and dancing. When he safely exits the shower tub he sits on the toilet to relax and regain his breath while he is still in his birthday suit. Most embarrassing is when the maid knocks on his door as if she is acting on cue. This requires that he shout and ask her to please wait in the hall as he scampers into his bedroom to hurriedly dress.

While reminiscing we agreed that getting old has invited many new experiences. Our body often wants to release unusual noises when we are with others – our fingers, hands and arms don’t always want to cooperate when we are handling different objects – our hearing often enjoys feeding us misinformation during conversations which invites puzzled looks at our responses – our bladder often insists that we make unplanned bathroom stops at inconvenient times – our memory prefers to go exploring when we are trying to concentrate – we have to refer constantly to our cell phone to confirm what day it is and remind ourselves to not forget our different medical appointments.

However, these distractions are more than offset because most days we can -come and go as we please – are not committed to a host of responsibilities – can regularly and happily offer wise opinions on many subjects based on our accumulated experience – can laugh when others might cry – and many of us can continue to enjoy showing off our safe driving skills even though younger drivers sometimes clearly indicate they don’t appreciate them.

And, how was your day? 😀
