Giving Thanks to our Healthcare Professionals

It could not be possible to praise our healthcare providers too highly. They go about their work in a noble profession, uncelebrated soldiers toiling through the days and nights in service to the sick and the injured. They are true professionals whose primary objective is to enhance humanity while giving of themselves.

They serve as our first lines of communication when something goes wrong or when we are concerned about our health. They are the “good of the world”. They are heroes, doing often infinitely more difficult work than ever might have expected of themselves. They make the world a better place and throughout the Pandemic they have proven how important they are in our lives, and within the world. To be able to do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can do, in spite of everything they have had to face, is the life of a healthcare provider. They dispense comfort, compassion and caring without a prescription.

Caring for others is an expression of what it means to be fully human. The capacity to care is the thing which gives life it’s deepest significance. For one person caring about another represents life’s greatest value. So with this said, it is here that we reflect upon statements as to why healthcare providers are our heroes:

A hero is someone who gives of themselves, often putting their own life at risk, for the greater good of others. They help improve lives and inspire those around them.

A hero is somebody who commits an act of remarkable bravery or who has shown an admirable quality such as great courage or strength of character and admired for outstanding qualities or achievements.

A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength and endurance in spite of overwhelming obstacles.

A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.

A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer, or to help others to do so.

A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.

A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway.

A hero is a person really intent on making the world a better place, for all people.

A true hero isn’t measured by the size of their strength, but by the strength of their heart.

A hero is an ordinary person who makes themselves extraordinary.

A hero is a person that brings change to our lives in a significant way. People who genuinely care about others and bring hope to their lives. People who help with a cause, never give up and inspire along the way.

A TRIBUTE

This post is dedicated to everyone in healthcare for putting your heart, mind and soul into all that you do and for all that you have done for us this past year. No matter which city, country or part of the world you reside and work, you have made a difference in so many lives, in the world, in all humanity. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, or the act of caring. Your expertise, professionalism and kindness have all helped turn our lives around. And, though you may not consider yourselves heroes, the rest of us sure do, and we hugely thank you for being one.

We all need to believe that caring people, can change the world….for, that’s all who ever have.
