Our mind is a powerful place. Most of us view the world through the mind without actually seeing the mind itself. Arising thoughts and impressions become our thoughts and impressions, become the truths. We tend to believe in all of our beliefs and interpretations as reality.
The mind is the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think and to feel, the faculty of consciousness and thought.
The brain is the physical place where the mind resides. The mind is the manifestations of thought, perception, emotions, determination, memory and imagination that takes place within the brain. The mind is often used to refer especially to the thought processes of reason.
There are 3 parts of the mind:
- conscious – the part we are aware of and think with. We are most familiar with this part.
- unconscious – the creator of dreams – It sorts out millions of pieces of data you’ve been exposed to and is filed away within the mind if needed later in life.
- subconscious – where mental programs are created and carried out. This is where change occurs and shifts our mental patterns.
When we recognize the subjective mind as a processor of illusions, we come to our senses. Instead of napping our way through life or flying on auto-pilot, we wake up and come alive.
Many of us believe that we operate, act and make decisions based upon knowledge and direct experience. In reality, we operate on many beliefs and assumptions other than on direct experience. Thoughts are not a problem, it’s only when we believe them, mistake them for reality, that we get into trouble.
Life has no consistent meanings except as you project your own meanings into life. Good and bad depend upon your point of view.
A solution to the problems of the mind – let it be. Make peace with and accept it as it is. No need to fix or quiet it or do anything else about it. Let your thoughts be whatever they are, positive or negative, and just get on with life. Learn self-compassion and make peace with your mind.
