Raising Your Self-Esteem

We will never have good self-esteem if we have negative thoughts about ourselves. For, self-esteem is feeling good about who we are. When we have it we build confidence and confidence then builds our self-esteem. Confidence and self-esteem feed upon the other. And, once you get this wonderful rhythm going, you can accomplish almost anything in life.

Since self-esteem is what we think of ourselves, why not think great thoughts? After all, we have the freedom to do so, right? Well, the reason we might not be so quick to do this is that over the years we have seen ourselves as “less than perfect” which lessens our self-confidence and self-worth. Throughout our life, there has always been that one specific person, right there, watching everything we have ever done and said in our life. That person is “you”. And, our subconscious mind has a tendency to keep score over the years. Thus, rating ourselves low or high on the self-opinion scoreboard.

As babies, life was great and we were full of confidence. We felt like we were the center of everyone’s universe. We had no guilt, no shame, nor did we compare ourselves to others. We were unique and wonderful. Then, somewhere during our childhood or later years, we learned feelings of inadequacy, rejection, self-doubt and fear. And, whether or not these past thoughts or actions were real or imagined, they are imbedded in our memories, of who we “think” we are.

The impression you have of yourself is only your “perceived” sense of worth, not your “actual “worth. Many of us have lost touch with our intrinsic goodness. We have allowed it to be covered by memories of our past life transgressions, which makes us feel less than special, lessening our self-confidence.

Only to the degree that we appreciate our innate human worthiness will our subconscious mind open up to all that we are deserving in life. For, success involves talent, effort and creativity, but firstly the willingness to “receive” this success and believe that we are deserving of it.

We subconsciously choose or attract into our life those experiences we feel we deserve. If we feel worthy, we will make productive choices. If we feel unworthy, we tend to make destructive or limiting choices. At every turn in life, we are free to choose the high or low road, whether we choose right or wrong, good or bad, learn easy lessons or hard ones for ourselves. We need to believe in ourselves to allow great life results. We need to cheer ourselves on to further our personal growth and confidence.

Know that nobody is perfect! Nobody! We need to begin to make positive change and forgive ourselves for our past actions and take positive steps going forward. We need to give ourselves more respect. It all begins with us. There is no need to punish ourselves over and over again for past actions. That is not necessary, nor has it ever been necessary. We constantly live and learn, stumble and evolve, rise and fall, change, grow, expand and progress. For, we are all humans-in-training. There is no human guide book to follow. We are all in this “school of life” together and we can learn and grow from our mistakes as well as our accomplishments. For any errors we make are lessons and opportunities to expand our knowledge along our life journey.

Life is a gift, and within each moment is our reality. The past and future only exist in our minds. But, we can live each and every moment, from here on, preparing and letting go of past mistakes. Start to wipe your scoreboard clean to open up your life to new ideas, creativity and success. You are so deserving of every wonderful opportunity that awaits you. Believe in You!
